Who Should Attend?
OTHM Introductory Certificate is suitable for Student Members
who are at the beginning of their careers. Candidates do not
necessarily have to have experience of working in the
industry at the outset of the course but, if they do not have
this experience, students are expected to be working in the
industry on a part- time basis during the course. The
Introductory Certificate course allows candidates to acquire
useful basic knowledge as a preparation for a career in the
industry. You must be 18 years or older at the beginning of
the course.

- the structure of the hospitality industry.
- Principles of customer services in tourism and
hospitality.
- Ecological, cultural and other factors and their
effects on the industry.
- Ways of promoting culture through tourism and
hospitality.
- Compare countries involved in sustainable cultural and
ecological tourism.
- Job opportunities in the tourism and hospitality
industry - their entry requirements and progression
routes.
Assessment
60% Project, 30% On-line examination, 10% Attendance.
Project
The project will cover a practical working situation in
travel, tourism or hospitality. Students are expected to
undertake some research and to draw on their current work
experience. Your training centre will assist you in choosing
and defining your topic so that it covers areas of the OTHM
Introductory Certificate syllabus.
On-Line Exam
30 questions multiple choice to be completed in 1 hour at an
OTHM Approved On-Line Examination Centre.
After the Course..
On passing the OTHM Introductory Certificate Members will be
eligible to be considered for
OTHM Certificate
course.
